The June issue of The Article was always planned to coincide with Pride Month; we knew we wanted to highlight the LGBTQ+ community in the Peace region.
We believe that love is love and that understanding our neighbours and their cultures is important to creating a welcoming and understanding community.
What I found in the reporting for this issue was that we highlighted a bunch of people living their true lives as themselves.
Joshua Kaczkielo talked to me about growing up in a rural area and always wanting to perform. Now, he may be best known as Tiffany IBS, one of the few drag performers in the Peace Region.
He loves to perform, and I hope you enjoy reading about his story.
In Dawson Creek, Aleisha Hendry shared the story of Faking Sanity and its owners, who have a unique store that is “a safe space for book nerds, yarn aficionados, and the queer community.”
We live in a world where social media constantly tells us to fear everyone, and we begin to forget that our neighbours, and just about everyone in our community, just want to live in a nice, safe space.
Be kind to one another, smile, say hello to your neighbour, and don’t be too quick to judge.
I hope you enjoy this issue of The Article. Melanie and I appreciate all the comments and emails, and we’re glad to hear how much you enjoy the magazine.
