My first ever comic-con event was in 2023 when Jesse and I went to Edmonton Expo.
The crowd there was quite overwhelming, but I was in awe of being in a space filled with people sharing what they love, booth after booth, panels talking about the shows they love, and wearing cosplay.
Games, movies, tv series, books, anime – it was all there.
My fandom is Scrabble. I started playing with my dad when I was about 12 years old and developed a love for the game.
I love things Scrabble-themed like note pads, pens, socks, greeting cards – I even have Scrabble coasters.
It feels good to be surrounded by the thing you love.
When the Scrabble app was created in 2020, I signed up right away and have been playing friends, the computer, and people around the world nearly every day.
This year, Jesse and I attended CreekCon in Dawson Creek (March) and Mile Zero Fan Summit in Grimshaw (May) and both were so much fun!
I see it as a joyous event because it’s a special day when you get to experience fans loving and sharing the movie/game/book/character that makes them happy.
I admire people who lean into their fandom, and there are so many ways to do it: artwork to visualize it like Celina Forbes, a podcast like Dan Gunther and Barry Deford to discuss it, or creating your own original characters in a medium like graphic novels like Mike Moman and Frosty because it best fits your storytelling.
I hope this summer you enjoy the fandom you love!
Share your fandom with us! Post and tag us – I’d love to know if there are any more Scrabble fans!
