In the Dark — Hannah Nott

In the Dark, 2024. Oil on panel 8″x10″ Hannah Nott

Life can be tough, and often dark. All sides seem to close in around us without an escape. Whether in the community or in our personal lives, there are periods of darkness when all hope seems lost. In these moments, it is most important to remember that where there is a spark, a fire can burn brightly.

However, without the contrast of the dark, you cannot have the warmth of the light and the hope it brings. The lantern is a symbol and its warm glow reminds us of the hope that still burns in humanity. It guides us through the dark forest where we can only see the path directly in front of us, but we have faith in the path’s continuation and we keep going.

About the Artist

Hannah Nott is a multidisciplinary artist exploring the world through the lens of visual emotionalism. Her specialty is in oil paint, watercolor and drawing techniques. Her current works revolve around creating fantastical imagery to express the emotions, and human experiences.

The process of artmaking is all about pivoting and being flexible enough to make changes on a whim. Hannah helps demystify this in her visual arts instruction courses and projects.

Hannah is an Ontario-born Métis artist and is expanding her career as a fine artist, being involved in community groups and events. She is a mentor teaching academic-style lessons through her business Open Palette Studio, as well as an assistant at the Grant Berg Art Gallery.
